Special Olympics Torch Run

WE HAD A GREAT TIME AT THE GB NATIONAL SUMMER GAMES IN SHEFFIELD

Thank you to all our coaches, parents, fundraisers and especially Mrs Doreen Manousios the Chair of Special Olympics Wakefield who through their dedication and hard work managed to get 12 of our athletes to the games.

SPECIAL OLYMPIC TORCH RUN 2017

Athletes, coaches, parents and supporters of Special Olympics from around the Wakefield district gathered together at Wakefield Town Hall to welcome the Special Olympic Torch as it passes through Wakefield along its journey towards the Special Olympic opening ceremony in Sheffield.

"A nice prelude to the games was the arrival of the Special Olympic torch to the city. Accompanied by its Police escort, it journeyed to the Wakefield Town Hall to be greeted by the Mayor and the supporters. The torch was accompanied by two of our athletes, along with two athletes from Able 2. We had an amazing turnout from Wakefield, Able 2 and Pontefract Pirates. The atmosphere was buzzing. All the athletes and their parents/carers were delighted. It was a joyous occasion with the added bonus of some much- needed media coverage also." D Manousios
